Baron Baden-Powell

Baron Baden-Powell, of Gilwell in the County of Essex, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created in 1929 for the military commander Lieutenant-General Sir Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baronet, hero of the Siege of Mafeking and founder of the international Scouting movement. He had already been created a baronet, of Bentley, in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 4 December 1922. As of 2011, the titles are held by his grandson, the third Baron, who succeeded his father in 1962.

Baden Powell, father of the first Baron, was a mathematician. Warington Baden-Powell, Sir George Baden-Powell, Agnes Baden-Powell and Baden Baden-Powell, siblings of the first Baron, all gained prominence in their own right.
