Commercial Uses
Fireworks
Barium Chlorate, when burned, produces a vibrant green light. This makes it the optimum chemical to use in firework. Because it is an oxidizer, is a chlorine donor when reacted, and contains a metal, allow this compound to produce a green color that is unparalleled. Unfortunately, due to the compound’s instability, it is hard to work with unless under perfect conditions. Therefore, more and more firework producers have begun to use most stable compound such as barium nitrate and copper carbonate.
Explosives
Because barium chlorate gives off light when reacted with heat, it can be classified as a largely exothermic reaction. This makes the chemical a good candidate for use in explosives.
Matches
Because of its ability to produce oxygen when reacted, barium chlorate is used to make matches. It is made into a solution that is put on the tips of matches so when scraped across the flint, the oxygen is ignited by the spark thus lighting the match.

Famous quotes containing the word commercial:
“There is every reason to rejoice with those self-styled prophets of commercial disaster, those harbingers of gloom,
Over the imminent lateness of the denouement that, advancing slowly, never arrives,
At the same time keeping the door open to a tongue-in-cheek attitude on the part of the perpetrators....”
—John Ashbery (b. 1927)
“Electronic aids, particularly domestic computers, will help the inner migration, the opting out of reality. Reality is no longer going to be the stuff out there, but the stuff inside your head. Its going to be commercial and nasty at the same time.”
—J.G. (James Graham)
