History
The Barcelona GSE was founded in July 2006 as a joint venture of four academic institutions (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, IAE-CSIC and CREI). The School is supported by six private institutions: The Agbar Group, AXA Research Fund, Banc Sabadell, Catalunya Caixa Savings Bank, "la Caixa" Savings Bank, and the FemCAT Foundation. It also receives public funding from the Catalan Government and the Barcelona City Council.
The School was legally recognized by the Government of Catalonia in October 2006 as a foundation dedicated to higher education.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The steps toward the emancipation of women are first intellectual, then industrial, lastly legal and political. Great strides in the first two of these stages already have been made of millions of women who do not yet perceive that it is surely carrying them towards the last.”
—Ellen Battelle Dietrick, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4, ch. 13, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)
“America is the only nation in history which, miraculously, has gone directly from barbarism to degeneration without the usual interval of civilization.”
—Attributed to Georges Clemenceau (18411929)
“It would be naive to think that peace and justice can be achieved easily. No set of rules or study of history will automatically resolve the problems.... However, with faith and perseverance,... complex problems in the past have been resolved in our search for justice and peace. They can be resolved in the future, provided, of course, that we can think of five new ways to measure the height of a tall building by using a barometer.”
—Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)
