Barbu (card Game) - Variations - Ravage City

Ravage City is an eighth contract (making for an even longer game of 32 deals) where whichever player takes the most cards in any one suit scores -36. If there is a tie between two players, each scores -18. If three tie each scores -12, and all get -9 for a four-way tie. Because Ravage City brings 24 negative points into the game, the point values of the other contracts are modified as follows:

  • No Tricks: Each trick scores -5 (-65 total)
  • No Hearts: Ace of ♥ scores -12, all other ♥s score -3 each (-60 total)
  • No Queens: Each queen scores -15 (-60 total)
  • No King: King of ♥ scores -25
  • No Last Two: Penultimate trick scores -10, ultimate trick scores -20 (-30 total)
  • Trumps: Each trick scores +5 (+65 total)
  • Domino: First player out scores +40, second +20, third 0 and last scores -20 (+40 total)

All other rules are the same as in seven-contract Barbu.

Famous quotes containing the words ravage and/or city:

By blood we live, the hot, the cold,
To ravage and redeem the world:
There is no bloodless myth will hold.
    Geoffrey Hill (b. 1932)

Without infringing on the liberty we so much boast, might we not ask our professional Mayor to call upon the smokers, have them register their names in each ward, and then appoint certain thoroughfares in the city for their use, that those who feel no need of this envelopment of curling vapor, to insure protection may be relieved from a nuisance as disgusting to the olfactories as it is prejudicial to the lungs.
    Harriot K. Hunt (1805–1875)
