Bandmaster - The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army

Bandmaster is a non-commissioned (or local) officer rank in The Salvation Army. A Salvation Army bandmaster is responsible for the ministry of a Salvation Army band and tends to the musical and spiritual development of the bandsmen and women. The Bandmaster is assisted by a Deputy Bandmaster, a Band Secretary, Band Sergeant and Band Treasurer. These roles are also non-commissioned officer ranks. The band may also have a Band Colour Sergeant and a Band Librarian. All of these roles will normally be undertaken by volunteer Salvationists who give their time and services free of charge. Charles Fry was the very first Salvation Army bandmaster.

Famous quotes containing the words salvation army, salvation and/or army:

Christianity was only a very strong and singularly well-timed Salvation Army movement that happened to receive help from an unusual and highly dramatic incident. It was a Puritan reaction in an age when, no doubt, a Puritan reaction was much wanted; but like all sudden violent reactions, it soon wanted reacting against.
    Samuel Butler (1835–1902)

There is the view that poetry should improve your life. I think people confuse it with the Salvation Army.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

A Jew without Jews, without Judaism, without Zionism, without Jewishness, without a temple or an army or even a pistol, a Jew clearly without a home, just the object itself, like a glass or an apple.
    Philip Roth (b. 1933)
