Band of The Red Hand - Real World Comparisons

Real World Comparisons

The name of the Band and its historical role is similar to the Red Branch Knights from the Irish Ulster Cycle.

The sigil of the Band may well be drawn from the Red Hand of Ulster. The Red Hand of Ulster were considered lucky and were led by the O'Neills. The O'Neills eventually fled Ireland during the flight of the Earl, and became renowned throughout Europe as great soldiers and officers.

The band's motto is likely taken from the words uttered by Julius Caesar, Alea iacta est.

Famous quotes containing the words real, world and/or comparisons:

Your real statesman is first of all, and chief of all, a great human being, with an eye for all the great fields on which men like himself struggle, with unflagging, pathetic hope, toward better things.... He is a guide, a counselor, a mentor, a servant, a friend of mankind.
    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

No man, however benevolent, liberal, and wise, can use a large fortune so that it will do half as much good in the world as it would if it were divided into moderate sums and in the hands of workmen who had earned it by industry and frugality. The piling up of estates often does great and conspicuous good.... But no man does with accumulated wealth so much good as the same amount would do in many hands.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

Decade after decade, artists came to paint the light of Provincetown, and comparisons were made to the lagoons of Venice and the marshes of Holland, but then the summer ended and most of the painters left, and the long dingy undergarment of the gray New England winter, gray as the spirit of my mood, came down to visit.
    Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
