Baltimore City College Football

The Baltimore City College football team, known as the "Knights", or formerly, the "Collegians" or "Alamedans", represents the Baltimore City College preparatory school of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S. Since the introduction of football at the school in the mid-1870s, City's football team has competed in more than 1,000 contests, won more than 20 Maryland Scholastic Association (MSA) and Baltimore City championships, while emphasizing academics and fair play.

In 1889, City's main rivalry started when the first game was played between Baltimore City College and the Baltimore Manual Training School, which was later renamed the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute (Poly). Five former City players have gone on to professional careers in the National Football League (NFL). Two City coaches have advanced to higher levels as well. George Young served in the NFL as the general manager of the New York Giants from 1979 to 1997 and served as an assistant coach with the Baltimore Colts and the Miami Dolphins. Another coach, Harry Lawrence established a winning tradition at Bucknell University.

There is a saying in Baltimore that crabs may be prepared in fifty ways and that all of them are good.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

I don’t like the city better, the more I see it, but worse. I am ashamed of my eyes that behold it. It is a thousand times meaner than I could have imagined.... The pigs in the street are the most respectable part of the population.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I tell you, you’re ruining that boy. You’re ruining him. Why can’t you do as much for me?
S.J. Perelman, U.S. screenwriter, Bert Kalmar, Harry Ruby, and Norman Z. McLeod. Groucho Marx, Horsefeathers, a wisecrack made as Huxley College president to Connie, the college widow (Thelma Todd)

...I’m not money hungry.... People who are rich want to be richer, but what’s the difference? You can’t take it with you. The toys get different, that’s all. The rich guys buy a football team, the poor guys buy a football. It’s all relative.
    Martina Navratilova (b. 1956)
