Sport

The Ballindine Gaelic footballers join with Irishtown to form the Davitts team who play in red and black. Davitts is currently playing in Division 1A league and Senior Championship. In 2011 Davitts won the Intermediate County Championship beating Burrishoole 0-14 to 0-12 in the final. They went on to win the Intermediate Connacht Championship defeating Padraig Pearses on a scorline of 1-13 to 0-08. Ballindine is home to Enda Conway who plays for Corinthians in Galway, and with UCD. In the early 1990's Enda was a loose cannon who described himself as the White Bull. However after a sit down meeting with John Heneghan, famously known as the 'Treaty of Ballindine', held in Boxcar's turf shed, Enda decided to straighten himself out and concentrate on his rugby career and to sew up the rest of the country.

Famous quotes containing the word sport:

Rabelais, for instance, is intolerable; one chapter is better than a volume,—it may be sport to him, but it is death to us. A mere humorist, indeed, is a most unhappy man; and his readers are most unhappy also.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

For generations, a wide range of shooting in Northern Ireland has provided all sections of the population with a pastime which ... has occupied a great deal of leisure time. Unlike many other countries, the outstanding characteristic of the sport has been that it was not confined to any one class.
—Northern Irish Tourist Board. quoted in New Statesman (London, Aug. 29, 1969)

How long, then, Catiline, while you abuse our patience? How long is this madness of yours to make sport of us?
    Marcus Tullius Cicero (106–43 B.C.)
