Balibo Five - Theatre Production

Theatre Production

In 2011 Melbourne Theatre Company and Western Australia's Black Swan State Theatre Company commissioned Australian playwright Aidan Fennessy to write a new work based around the death of The Bailbo Five. Entitle 'National Interest' the work focuses on the family of slain journalist Tony Stewart. The play is set to debut in Perth in March of 2012 before touring east for the Melbourne season of the show in June. Coinciding with this new production on May 20 East Timor's President Jose Ramos Horta invited Paul Stewart into the Presidential Palace in Dili and presented him with a medal of merit for his brother Tony to give to his mother June Stewart for services to East Timor's independence struggle.

Famous quotes containing the words theatre and/or production:

If an irreducible distinction between theatre and cinema does exist, it may be this: Theatre is confined to a logical or continuous use of space. Cinema ... has access to an alogical or discontinuous use of space.
    Susan Sontag (b. 1933)

Constant revolutionizing of production ... distinguish the bourgeois epoch from all earlier ones. All fixed, fast-frozen relations, with their train of ancient and venerable prejudices are swept away, all new-formed ones become antiquated before they can ossify. All that is solid melts into air, all that is holy is profaned, and man is at last compelled to face with sober senses, his real conditions of life, and his relations with his kind.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
