Badvel - History

History

The city is named after the famous poet Baddena, who wrote Sumathi Sathakam. It was initially named 'Baddenavolu', later changing to 'Badvolu' and then finally to 'Badvel'. The city has become the center to more than 127 villages. Badvel is the only well developed city with good educational institutes. Due to the prescience of ex-(Member of the Legislative Assembly)) Sri Narayana Reddy and ex-Minister Sri Bijivemula Veera Reddy, the city has a polytechnic, a degree college conferring B.Eds.

Freedom fighter Vaddamani Chidanandam won as an independent from the Badvel segment in 1952 and 1962. He constructed the Sagileru Dam (now known as the Chidanandam lower Sagileru Dam) and the Badvel Cheruvu for irrigation.

Dr. Vaddamani Shiva Rama Krishna Rao, son of Freedom Fighter Sri Vaddamani Chidanandham, followed in the footsteps of his father and was elected to the Andhra Pradesh state assembly twice (1978 & 1989). He has a large following in the Porumamilla area, where he played an important role in the development in roads and other amenities.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Hence poetry is something more philosophic and of graver import than history, since its statements are rather of the nature of universals, whereas those of history are singulars.
    Aristotle (384–322 B.C.)

    A people without history
Is not redeemed from time, for history is a pattern
    Of timeless moments.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

The history of his present majesty, is a history of unremitting injuries and usurpations ... all of which have in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over these states. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world, for the truth of which we pledge a faith yet unsullied by falsehood.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)
