The BAA is most often awarded in the Commonwealth of Nations, especially in Canada and New Zealand. For example, the BAA is awarded by Mount Saint Vincent University for child and youth study, information technology and family studies and gerontology. Northland Polytechnic in New Zealand offers the BAA for the visual arts.

In Canada, the BAA is now being awarded by Ontario colleges (CAAT). Theses degrees started to be offered around 2002 by colleges in Toronto, with the highest quantity being offered by Humber College. How they compare to other regular degrees 4-year Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from a "University" is still to be scrutinized, especially in the liberal studies area.

On 20 February 2009 the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science, Ronald Plasterk, proposed to replace all the existing degrees offered by Dutch vocational universities, such as the BBA, BEd and BEng, with the BAA and the BASc.

Famous quotes containing the word usage:

Girls who put out are tramps. Girls who don’t are ladies. This is, however, a rather archaic usage of the word. Should one of you boys happen upon a girl who doesn’t put out, do not jump to the conclusion that you have found a lady. What you have probably found is a lesbian.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1951)

    Pythagoras, Locke, Socrates—but pages
Might be filled up, as vainly as before,
With the sad usage of all sorts of sages,
Who in his life-time, each was deemed a bore!
The loftiest minds outrun their tardy ages.
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

...Often the accurate answer to a usage question begins, “It depends.” And what it depends on most often is where you are, who you are, who your listeners or readers are, and what your purpose in speaking or writing is.
    Kenneth G. Wilson (b. 1923)
