Smartphone As Baby Monitors
There are apps to download for smartphones, such as "Baby Monitor 3G" or "Baby Monitor & Alarm" that transform your smartphone into a baby monitor. Such apps require that you dedicate a piece of video camera enabled hardware, usually a smartphone or tablet, as the camera end of the camera/viewer chain.
The alternative to these are the hardware monitors, such as the Withings or BabyPing monitors. With such monitors a specially designed video camera is purchased, that usually links through a home Wi-Fi system to the dedicated app on a smartphone or tablet. This means a dedicated smart device doesn't need to be left in the babies room. Such devices tend to be more feature rich and reliable.
