Avon and Somerset Constabulary

Avon And Somerset Constabulary

Avon & Somerset Constabulary is the territorial police force in England responsible for policing the non-metropolitan county of Somerset, the city & county of Bristol and the unitary authorities of South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset; before 1996 these districts formed the now-defunct county of Avon, hence the force's name.

Famous quotes containing the words avon, somerset and/or constabulary:

A favorite of outdoor alcoholics, connoisseurs and Fundamentalists, these pills turn water into wine. In 10 minutes the most fetid swamp scum in the forest can become modest red, elusive and light on first taste, yet playful—one might say a trifle impudent—on the afterbite. Saves pack space by eliminating need for bulky corkscrew, decanter and bottles. Store pills on their sides in a cool dark place.
Alfred Gingold, U.S. humorist. Items From Our Catalogue, “Wine Pills,” Avon Books (1982)

When you are young you take the kindness people show you as your right.
    —W. Somerset Maugham (1874–1965)

When constabulary duty’s to be done,
A policeman’s lot is not a happy one.
    Sir William Schwenck Gilbert (1836–1911)
