History
The Aviron flying school managed to order a Tiger Moth through the Yishuv and began operating in 1936. It was flown in by a British flight instructor named Grey and registered under the marks G-ACYN, with serial number 3314. The Aviron flying school also operated three Polish-made RWD-8 biplanes. The first 11 Aviron graduates earned their pilot licenses in 1939. Aviron later merged with Palestine Flying Service and acquired more aircraft. By 1942, Aviron had graduated 95 licensed pilots. Aviron collaborated heavily with Jewish underground defense force Haganah. The Haganah's elite wing, Palmach established an air platoon known as the Palavir in 1943. The Palavir trained its pilots at and operated out of Aviron until 1947 when the school moved to Lod Airport near Tel Aviv.
