AVANCE - Premise

Premise

The basis of AVANCE’s principal Parent-Child Education Program is on Dr. Bronfenrenner’s (1979) observations of the impact of environmental factors on human development. Bronfenrenner’s research suggested that factors external to the family were influential in acting as constraints to escaping from poverty cycles and the research aimed to provide an intervention model to address the situation. The Parent-Child Education Program, adopted by AVANCE, differed from other early intervention programs by focusing on the role of both the parent and child. The intention was to assist parents by providing a stable home environment. The method of support was in improving the parent’s language and work skills, parenting knowledge and awareness of community services.

Famous quotes containing the word premise:

We have to give ourselves—men in particular—permission to really be with and get to know our children. The premise is that taking care of kids can be a pain in the ass, and it is frustrating and agonizing, but also gratifying and enjoyable. When a little kid says, “I love you, Daddy,” or cries and you comfort her or him, life becomes a richer experience.
