Autonomy Progress Federalism Aosta Valley

Autonomy Progress Federalism Aosta Valley (Vallée d'Aoste Autonomie Progrès Fédéralisme, APF) is an Italian coalition of parties active in Aosta Valley.

It was originally formed as an electoral list for the 2006 general election by three regionalist parties: Valdotanian Union (UV), Edelweiss Aosta Valley (SA) and Autonomist Federation (FA). The alliance was soundly defeated by the centre-left list Autonomy Liberty Democracy (ALD), both in the race for the Chamber of Deputies and for the Senate in 2006. For the Chamber Marco Viérin (SA, APF) lost 43.4% to 30.7% to Roberto Nicco (DS, ALD), while in the Senate race incumbent senator Augusto Rollandin (UV, APF) was defeated 44.2% to 32.0% by Carlo Perrin (RV, ALD).

The three regionalist parties presented again the list, simply named Aosta Valley, for the 2008 general election. Antonio Fosson (UV, APF) defeated incumbent senator Carlo Perrin 41.4% to 37.4%, while Ego Perron (UV, APF) was narrowly defeated by incumbent deputy Roberto Nicco 39.1% to 37.8%.

Under the new electoral law, the coalition ran together also in the 2008 regional election, gaining 62% of the vote and a stable majority in the Regional Council (22 deputies out of 35).

Famous quotes containing the words autonomy, progress and/or valley:

When autonomy is respected, the two-year-old does not carry this unfinished task into later stages of growth. In adolescence, the youngster will again concentrate on independence, but he won’t have to blast the roof off the second time around if it is already well established.
    Dorothy Corkville Briggs (20th century)

What makes revolutionists is either self-pity, or indignation for the sake of others, or a sympathetic perception of the dominant undercurrent of progress in things. The nature before us is revolutionist from the direct sense of personal worth,... that pride of life, which to the Greek was a heavenly grace.
    Walter Pater (1839–1894)

Jugful of milk! It was yours years ago
when I lived in the valley of my bones,
bones dumb in the swamp. Little playthings.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)
