Austrian Partition

Austrian Partition

The Austrian Partition refers to the former territories of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth acquired by the Austrian Empire during the First (1772) and Third (1795) partitions of Poland in late 18th century, conducted jointly by the Russian Empire, the Kingdom of Prussia and Habsburg Austria. The Austrian acquisition was the second largest share of the Commonwealth's population after Russia; over 2.65 million people living on 128,900 km2 (49,800 sq mi) of land constituting formerly south-central frontiers of the defunct country.

For other territories annexed, see Russian Partition and Prussian Partition.
