However, in the 1970s oral storytelling was given new life with the formation of storytelling guilds in Victoria and Western Australia and later in New South Wales and other states. In Australia today there are active guilds in Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. These guilds have close ties with storytelling guilds in New Zealand and the biennial international storytelling conference in Masterton (Glistening Waters) is a popular event.
