Australian Contract Law

Australian contract law is based on the inherited English contract law, with specific statutory modifications of principles in some areas. Australian law has developed through the decisions of Australian courts, especially since the 1980s, and various pieces of legislation passed by the Parliament of Australia and by the various states and territories. See contract law for very general doctrines relating to contract law. In Australia, the law of equity has also played an increasing part in changing the laws regarding contracts, and what occurs when they are breached.

Famous quotes containing the words australian, contract and/or law:

The Australian mind, I can state with authority, is easily boggled.
    Charles Osborne (b. 1927)

Smoking ... is downright dangerous. Most people who smoke will eventually contract a fatal disease and die. But they don’t brag about it, do they? Most people who ski, play professional football or drive race cars, will not die—at least not in the act—and yet they are the ones with the glamorous images, the expensive equipment and the mythic proportions. Why this should be I cannot say, unless it is simply that the average American does not know a daredevil when he sees one.
    Fran Lebowitz (b. 1950)

    I sat on cushioned otter-skin:
My word was law from Ith to Emain,
    And shook at Invar Amargin
The hearts of the world-troubling seamen,
And drove tumult and war away....
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
