Australian Capital Territory Ambulance Service

Australian Capital Territory Ambulance Service

The Australian Capital Territory Ambulance Service (ACTAS) is responsible for providing emergency and non-emergency ambulance services to the ACT community. Although existing since 1955 it was established in legilsation by the Emergencies Act 2004 (ACT).

In 2005 ACTAS celebrated its 50th Anniversary of service to the ACT community. In 1955 the Canberra Ambulance Service was formally established as a separate entity and is the predecessor to the organisation that exists today. From 1935-1955 the provision of ambulance services was done by members of the Fire Service. Prior to that volunteer drivers from the Transport Section of the Department of the Interior drove the ambulance, a Model "T" Ford.

Famous quotes containing the words australian, capital, territory and/or service:

Beyond the horizon, or even the knowledge, of the cities along the coast, a great, creative impulse is at work—the only thing, after all, that gives this continent meaning and a guarantee of the future. Every Australian ought to climb up here, once in a way, and glimpse the various, manifold life of which he is a part.
    Vance Palmer (1885–1959)

Bob, it’s the second night of violence in this normally quiet, yet generally swinging, Casino Capital of the East.
    John Guare (b. 1938)

We found ourselves always torn between the mothers in our heads and the women we needed to become simply to stay alive. With one foot in the past and another in the future, we hobbled through first love, motherhood, marriage, divorce, careers, menopause, widowhood—never knowing what or who we were supposed to be, staking out new emotional territory at every turn—like pioneers.
    Erica Jong (20th century)

The masochist: “I send my tormentor hurrying hither and thither in the service of my suffering and desire.”
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
