"Arbeit Macht Frei" Sign Theft
Early in the morning on December 18, 2009 the Arbeit macht frei ("work makes you free") sign over the gate of Auschwitz I was stolen. The theft was organised by a Swedish former neo-Nazi, Anders Högström. The sign was later recovered and returned to its original place.
