Aurenfaie - Culture

Culture

The Aurenfaie are seen as the people of Aura- the Aurenfaie name for the god the Skalans call Illior. As such, they are a highly spiritual and peaceful people, generally slow to violence. They believe in taking as much as is needed from nature (in terms of hunting etc.) and no more. The Aurenfaie hold dragons in special reverence, viewing them as being chosen creatures of Aura. (As Skalans similarly see Owls to be the chosen animals of Illior).

Famous quotes containing the word culture:

Education must, then, be not only a transmission of culture but also a provider of alternative views of the world and a strengthener of the will to explore them.
    Jerome S. Bruner (20th century)

Both cultures encourage innovation and experimentation, but are likely to reject the innovator if his innovation is not accepted by audiences. High culture experiments that are rejected by audiences in the creator’s lifetime may, however, become classics in another era, whereas popular culture experiments are forgotten if not immediately successful. Even so, in both cultures innovation is rare, although in high culture it is celebrated and in popular culture it is taken for granted.
    Herbert J. Gans (b. 1927)

All our civilization had meant nothing. The same culture that had nurtured the kindly enlightened people among whom I had been brought up, carried around with it war. Why should I not have known this? I did know it, but I did not believe it. I believed it as we believe we are going to die. Something that is to happen in some remote time.
    Mary Heaton Vorse (1874–1966)
