Famous quotes containing the word life:

Why not make an end of it all?... My life is a succession of griefs and bitter feelings.... What is death?... A very small matter, when all is said; only a fool would be concerned about it.
    Stendhal [Marie Henri Beyle] (1783–1842)

The new man is born too old to tolerate the new world. The present conditions of life have not yet erased the traces of the past. We run too fast, but we still do not move enough.... He looks but he does not contemplate, he sees but he does not think. He runs away from time, which is made of thought, and yet all he can feel is his own time, the present.
    Eugenio Montale (1896–1981)

Life is a dangerous adventure,” says the American; and he is half right: life is dangerous, but it’s not an adventure.
    José Bergamín (1895–1983)
