Association of Science-Technology Centers

The Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) is an international organization of science centers and science museums. Members are located in more than 40 countries. Founded in 1973, the organization is headquartered in Washington, D.C., USA.

ASTC holds an annual conference, publishes books and reports, provides professional development, and supports online communities for people who work in and with science centers. ASTC also is home to the Center for Advancement of Informal Science Education (CAISE), which was founded in 2007 with support from the National Science Foundation.

Science centers and museums that are part of the ASTC Travel Passport Program honor the memberships of other Passport participants, as long as the museums are 90+ miles apart and the visitor shows their membership card. Restrictions based on residency also apply.

Famous quotes containing the words association of, association and/or centers:

With all their faults, trade-unions have done more for humanity than any other organization of men that ever existed. They have done more for decency, for honesty, for education, for the betterment of the race, for the developing of character in man, than any other association of men.
    Clarence Darrow (1857–1938)

They that have grown old in a single state are generally found to be morose, fretful and captious; tenacious of their own practices and maxims; soon offended by contradiction or negligence; and impatient of any association but with those that will watch their nod, and submit themselves to unlimited authority.
    Samuel Johnson (1709–1784)

But look what we have built ... low-income projects that become worse centers of delinquency, vandalism and general social hopelessness than the slums they were supposed to replace.... Cultural centers that are unable to support a good bookstore. Civic centers that are avoided by everyone but bums.... Promenades that go from no place to nowhere and have no promenaders. Expressways that eviscerate great cities. This is not the rebuilding of cities. This is the sacking of cities.
    Jane Jacobs (b. 1916)
