Famous quotes containing the words assault on, assault and/or senses:

Among women.—”The truth? Oh, you don’t really know what ‘the truth’ is! Isn’t it an assault on all our pudeurs?”
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

There is no longer beauty except in the struggle. No more masterpieces without an aggressive character. Poetry must be a violent assault against the unknown forces in order to overcome them and prostrate them before men.
    Tommaso Marinetti (1876–1944)

Our senses perceive no extreme. Too much sound deafens us; too much light dazzles us; too great distance or proximity hinders our view. Too great length and too great brevity of discourse tends to obscurity; too much truth is paralyzing.... In short, extremes are for us as though they were not, and we are not within their notice. They escape us, or we them.
    Blaise Pascal (1623–1662)
