Famous quotes containing the words love and, love and/or war:

    Into the woods my Master went,
    Clean forspent, forspent.
    Into the woods my Master came,
    Forspent with love and shame,
    But the olives they were not blind to Him;
    Sidney Lanier (1842–1881)

    In love and friendship the imagination is as much exercised as the heart; and if either is outraged the other will be estranged. It is commonly the imagination which is wounded first, rather than the heart,—it is so much the more sensitive.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

But I will venture to assert, that a great and lasting war can never be supported on this principle alone. It must be aided by a prospect of interest, or some reward.
    George Washington (1732–1799)
