Early Life
Arthur Irwin was born in 1858 in Toronto, Ontario. He was born to an Irish blacksmith and a Canadian mother. As a child, Irwin moved with his family to Boston. He attended school there and then played local amateur baseball until he was recruited by the Worcester Ruby Legs in 1879.
