Armenians From Republic of Armenia in Turkey
With the establishment of the Republic of Armenia, and because of economic hardship in the new republic, and the differential in remuneration of work, many Armenian nationals from the republic work in Turkey. The official numbers are not validated, as it is a highly seasonal process, but estimates vary between 40,000 and 70,000
Some of these people are in Turkey as temporary residents, but most as illegal immigrants.

Famous quotes containing the words republic and/or turkey:
“Our great Republic is a government of laws and not of men. Here, the people rule.”
—Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
“A turkey is more occult and awful than all the angels and archangels. In so far as God has partly revealed to us an angelic world, he has partly told us what an angel means. But God has never told us what a turkey means. And if you go and stare at a live turkey for an hour or two, you will find by the end of it that the enigma has rather increased than diminished.”
—Gilbert Keith Chesterton (18741936)
