Armas Launis - The Journalist

The Journalist

Being anxious to maintain contact with his homeland, Launis was a regular contributor to various Finnish newspapers (Helsingin Sanomat, Uusi Suomi, Suomen Kuvalehti). He co-founded and was an active member of the Sociéte de la presse étrangère de la Côte d'Azur (Association of foreign press of the French Riviera) and a journalist for the Association française d'expansion et d'échanges artistiques (French Association for the development of artistic exchanges).

In 1930 he settled permanently in Nice, France, where he died; he took an active part in musical and cultural exchanges between France and Finland.

Famous quotes containing the word journalist:

Newspapermen are either drunkards or idealists, Miss Rutledge. I’m afraid I’m both. But however soiled his hands, the journalist goes staggering through life with a beacon raised.
    Ben Hecht (1893–1964)

The Washington press corps thinks that Julie Nixon Eisenhower is the only member of the Nixon Administration who has any credibility—and, as one journalist put it, this is not to say that anyone believes what she is saying but simply that people believe she believes what she is saying ... it is almost as if she is the only woman in America over the age of twenty who still thinks her father is exactly what she thought he was when she was six.
    Nora Ephron (b. 1941)
