Arkansas Razorbacks Baseball

The University of Arkansas Razorbacks baseball team, sometimes referred to as the Diamond Hogs, is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Southeastern Conference (SEC), and is currently coached by Dave van Horn. The program started in 1923, and will enter its 89th season of play in 2011. The University of Arkansas' is one of only four teams in the SEC to turn a profit from its baseball program in recent years, along with SEC Western division rivals LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. Many large schools such as Iowa State, Colorado, and Wisconsin have dropped their baseball programs because of financial losses.

The Diamond Hogs have been to 25 NCAA tournaments and seven College World Series: 1979, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2004, 2009, 2012.

Famous quotes containing the words arkansas and/or baseball:

...I am who I am because I’m a black female.... When I was health director in Arkansas ... I could talk about teen-age pregnancy, about poverty, ignorance and enslavement and how the white power structure had imposed it—only because I was a black female. I mean, black people would have eaten up a white male who said what I did.
    Joycelyn Elders (b. 1933)

It is a mass language only in the same sense that its baseball slang is born of baseball players. That is, it is a language which is being molded by writers to do delicate things and yet be within the grasp of superficially educated people. It is not a natural growth, much as its proletarian writers would like to think so. But compared with it at its best, English has reached the Alexandrian stage of formalism and decay.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)
