Arizona State University Sun Devil Marching Band - Friday Night Mill Band

Friday Night Mill Band

Tradition started in the 2009 Fall Semester of going onto Mill Avenue and playing songs for Mill Avenue patrons the Friday night before a home football game. These members walk up and down the street as a group stopping on major corners for 5–10 minutes playing stand tunes or Show excerpts from the next days game. A few businesses along the street allow this pep band to come in and play a few songs for patrons, or even the workers themselves. Often dressed in gold these members are not 'officially' with the Marching Band or University for liability purposes and is completely student run.

Famous quotes containing the words friday night, friday, night, mill and/or band:

This is the only “wet” community in a wide area, and is the rendezvous of cow hands seeking to break the monotony of chuck wagon food and range life. Friday night is the “big time” for local cowboys, and consequently the calaboose is called the “Friday night jail.”
—Administration in the State of Texa, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)

Don’t you know there are 200 temperance women in this county who control 200 votes. Why does a woman work for temperance? Because she’s tired of liftin’ that besotted mate of hers off the floor every Saturday night and puttin’ him on the sofa so he won’t catch cold. Tonight we’re for temperance. Help yourself to them cloves and chew them, chew them hard. We’re goin’ to that festival tonight smelling like a hot mince pie.
    Laurence Stallings (1894–1968)

A man who has nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the existing of better men than himself.
    —John Stuart Mill (1806–1873)

Nothing makes a man feel older than to hear a band coming up the street and not to have the impulse to rush downstairs and out on to the sidewalk.
    Robert Benchley (1889–1945)
