Arekere is a residential area on Bannerghatta Road in South Bengaluru. The origin of the name "Arekere" comes from a water reservoir which is in the area. Are in Kannada means half. Kere in Kannada means a water reservoir or pond.
Some of the well developed residential areas in Arekere are, Arekere Mico Layout which is a BDA layout and was developed in the late 70's, Pandurangnagar which is just adjacent to Mico layout. Some of the apartment complexes in Arekere are Syndicate Bank Colony, L & T Southcity, Mantri Paradise, Mantri Woodlands, Mantri Residency, Meenakshi Residency, Meenakshi Mangalam, Shantiniketan, Vijaya Bank Enclave, Aspenwood Apartments. Schools in this area are BGS National Public School, Mitra Academy etc. Bright Kids and some more play schools are there too.
The entire area has developed very fast since year 2000 due to large number of IT, BPO companies, and even hospitals like Apollo Hospitals and Wockhardt Hospital have come up nearby.IIM Bangalore is half a km from this area.
There is a Mini Forest, Ganesh temple and a playground within Arekere-Mico Layout.
