Famous quotes containing the words break, annually, produced, copies and/or register:

If you are not willing to lose all the labour you have been at to break the will of your child, to bring his will into subjection to yours that it may be afterward subject to the will of God, there is one advice which, though little known, should be particularly attended. . . . John Welsley (18th century)

It’s all very well to dream of a dove that saves,
    Picasso’s or the Pope’s
The one that annually coos in Our Lady’s ear
    Half the world’s hopes,
    Anthony Hecht (b. 1923)

Chance arrives unannounced. It emerges, and when it leaves, we are lucky if the changes it has produced are only external.
    Franz Grillparzer (1791–1872)

The only good copies are those which make us see the absurdity of bad originals.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

Genius ... is the capacity to see ten things where the ordinary man sees one, and where the man of talent sees two or three, plus the ability to register that multiple perception in the material of his art.
    Ezra Pound (1885–1972)
