Application Performance Management

Application performance management (APM), is the discipline within systems management that focuses on monitoring and managing the performance and availability of software applications. APM is the translation of IT metrics into business meaning (value). This discipline looks at workflow and related IT tools deployed to detect, diagnose, and report on application performance issues to ensure that it meets or exceeds the expectations of end-users and the business. Application performance relates to how fast transactions are completed on behalf of, or information is delivered to the end user by the application via a particular network, application and/or web services infrastructure.

Famous quotes containing the words application, performance and/or management:

There are very few things impossible in themselves; and we do not want means to conquer difficulties so much as application and resolution in the use of means.
François, Duc De La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680)

O world, world! thus is the poor agent despised. O traitors and bawds, how earnestly are you set a-work, and how ill requited! Why should our endeavour be so loved, and the performance so loathed?
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

No officer should be required or permitted to take part in the management of political organizations, caucuses, conventions, or election campaigns. Their right to vote and to express their views on public questions, either orally or through the press, is not denied, provided it does not interfere with the discharge of their official duties. No assessment for political purposes on officers or subordinates should be allowed.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)
