Application Delivery Controller

An application delivery controller (ADC) is a network device, part of an application delivery network (ADN), in the datacenter that helps perform common tasks done by web sites in an effort to remove load from the web servers themselves. Many also provide load balancing. ADCs are usually placed between the firewall/router and the web farm. ADCs are sometimes described as "next-generation load balancers."

Famous quotes containing the words application and/or delivery:

We will not be imposed upon by this vast application of forces. We believe that most things will have to be accomplished still by the application called Industry. We are rather pleased, after all, to consider the small private, but both constant and accumulated, force which stands behind every spade in the field. This it is that makes the valleys shine, and the deserts really bloom.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

There was no speculation so promising, or at the same time so praisworthy, as the United Metropolitan Improved Hot Muffin and Crumpet Baking and Punctual Delivery Company.
    Charles Dickens (1812–1870)
