History

The team was founded in 1926 in the Prosfygika neighbourhood. The football club entered the Achaea FCA and played many matches against Panachaiki, APS Olympiakos, Patraikos and Thyella. The area was in the Olympiakos Patras arena, today's Prosfygika stadium.

The club is named after the ancient Greek god Apollo and it's colour is black and white.

The football team was later dissolved and today Apollon is mainly a basketball team, K.A.E. Apollon Patras. It is a regular member of the Greek Basketball First Division (Greek Basket League), participated in the European cups and played the Greek Basketball Cup final in 1997, losing the trophy by Olympiacos B.C. (78-80).

Famous quotes containing the word history:

... that there is no other way,
That the history of creation proceeds according to
    Stringent laws, and that things
Do get done in this way, but never the things
We set out to accomplish and wanted so desperately
    To see come into being.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

Whenever we read the obscene stories, the voluptuous debaucheries, the cruel and torturous executions, the unrelenting vindictiveness, with which more than half the Bible is filled, it would be more consistent that we called it the word of a demon than the Word of God. It is a history of wickedness that has served to corrupt and brutalize mankind.
    Thomas Paine (1737–1809)

Yet poetry, though the last and finest result, is a natural fruit. As naturally as the oak bears an acorn, and the vine a gourd, man bears a poem, either spoken or done. It is the chief and most memorable success, for history is but a prose narrative of poetic deeds.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
