APM Terminals

APM Terminals is an international container terminal operating company headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands. It is one of the world's largest port and terminal operators as well as providing cargo support and container Inland Services, and is the largest port and terminal operating company in terms of overall geographic scope operating a Global Terminal Network with interests in 70 port and terminal facilities in 40 countries on five continents, as well as over 170 Inland Services operations providing container transportation, management, maintenance and repair in 48 countries. APM Terminals was named "Port Operator of the Year" at the Lloyd's List 2012 Global Awards in September 2012, and "International Terminal Operator of the Year" at the Containerisation International Awards in October 2012.

APM Terminals generated revenue of $US4.78 billion in 2012, earning an after-tax profit of $US723 million. Container throughput (weighted by equity share) increased by 6% in 2012 compared with 2011 to 35.4 million TEUs. APM Terminals finalized new terminal development projects at Meishan Container Terminal, Berths 3,4, and 5 at the Port of Ningbo, China; Lázaro Cárdenas Terminal 2 at the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, Mexico and an inland dry port facilty in Mombasa, Kenya in 2012. During the year operations began at APM Terminals Gothenbug, at the Port of Gothenburg, Sweden, and at Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven at the JadeWeserPort development in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. A strategic investment in Russian and Baltic container and oil terminal operator Global Ports, Russia's largest container handling company by volume, was part of a $1.3 billion USD of cash flow dedicated to capital expenditure in 2012, doubling the previous year’s total. The acquisition of a 37.5% share in Global Ports from Transportation Investments Holding Limited, (also known as N-Trans), which also retains a 37.5% share, with the remaining 25% listed on the London Stock Exchange, brought six new port facilities and one inland container depot and logistics center into the APM Terminals portfolio, including two terminals at the Port of Saint Petersburg, Russia's busiest port, and one in Vostochny in the Russian Far East.

Brasil Terminal Portuário (BTP), at the Port of Santos, Brazil, a new 2.2 million TEU annual capacity facility, is expected to open in the 1st Quarter of 2013. APM Terminals holds a 50% share of BTP which with a 15 meter draft will be able to accom¬modate the larger vessels coming into the South American trade lanes.

APM Terminals’ proposal to operate all of the Port of Virginia facilities in the Hampton Roads/Portsmouth/Norfolk port complex under a long-term concession agreement with the Virginia Port Authority (VPA) is currently under consideration along with invited competing proposals.

APM Terminals remains an industry leader in the areas of Safety and Sustainability, and was awarded the 2011 Lloyd's List Global Safety Award as well as the Signal Mutual Safety Award for its US operations.
