Anyang University - History

History

The school began its existence in 1948 in Seoul.

When the campus moved from Seoul to Anyang in 1980s, the school expanded to many areas of Liberal Arts and, later, to the areas of engineering, technology, and business as well. With such expansion, the school changed its name to "DaeShin University" in 1990, and the current name was adopted in March 1995. Dr. Youngsil Kim became the first president of the university since its conversion to university system. He was succeeded by Dr. Seung Tae Kim. Dr. Seung Tae Kim was educated in Korea and the United States (Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania), and has taught at this University for many years before he assumed this position.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism.... Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images.
    Camille Paglia (b. 1947)

A poet’s object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

... in a history of spiritual rupture, a social compact built on fantasy and collective secrets, poetry becomes more necessary than ever: it keeps the underground aquifers flowing; it is the liquid voice that can wear through stone.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
