Anthony Henday Drive - Current and Future Construction

Current and Future Construction

The remaining 9 km (5.6 mi) leg in the northeast, from Manning Drive to the Yellowhead Highway in east Edmonton, began construction in July 2012, and is targeted for completion in the fall of 2016. This project will also include the reconstruction and upgrading of 18 km (11 mi) of existing highway that was previously repurposed for Anthony Henday Drive between Yellowhead Trail and Whitemud Drive. Portions of Yellowhead Trail and Sherwood Park Freeway will also be enhanced. Overall, the project will include the construction of nine interchanges, two road flyovers, eight rail flyovers and twin bridges over the North Saskatchewan River for a total of 46 bridge structures. As with the southeast and northwest legs, a P3 was selected to build and maintain the northeast portion for 30 years after construction, for a cost of $1.81 billion.

Famous quotes containing the words current, future and/or construction:

What in fact have I achieved, however much it may seem? Bits and pieces ... trivialities. But here they won’t tolerate anything else, or anything more. If I wanted to take one step in advance of the current views and opinions of the day, that would put paid to any power I have. Do you know what we are ... those of us who count as pillars of society? We are society’s tools, neither more nor less.
    Henrik Ibsen (1828–1906)

If nations always moved from one set of furnished rooms to another—and always into a better set—things might be easier, but the trouble is that there is no one to prepare the new rooms. The future is worse than the ocean—there is nothing there. It will be what men and circumstances make it.
    Alexander Herzen (1812–1870)

When the leaders choose to make themselves bidders at an auction of popularity, their talents, in the construction of the state, will be of no service. They will become flatterers instead of legislators; the instruments, not the guides, of the people.
    Edmund Burke (1729–1797)
