Life
Anselm was a nephew of Anselm of Canterbury and a monk of Chiusi. He was also abbot of Saint Saba monastery in Rome and a papal legate to England from 1115 to 1119. In 1121 he was elected Abbot of Bury St. Edmunds Abbey. He was elected to the see of London about 22 March 1136 and was enthroned at London in 1137, but his election was quashed by Pope Innocent II in 1138 and he returned to Bury St. Edmunds. He died on 3 January 1148. Anselm wanted to make the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, but was talked out of the trip by his monks, so he instead built a church to St. James, which may be the first church dedicated to St. James in England.

Famous quotes containing the word life:
“Life isnt meant to be easy. Its hard to take being on the topor on the bottom. I guess Im something of a fatalist. You have to have a sense of history, I think, to survive some of these things.... Life is one crisis after another.”
—Richard M. Nixon (19131995)
“I can no more think of my own life without thinking of wine and wines and where they grew for me and why I drank them when I did and why I picked the grapes and where I opened the oldest procurable bottles, and all that, than I can remember living before I breathed.”
—M.F.K. Fisher (19081992)
“What a vast fraternity it is,that of Hearts that Ache. For the last three months it has seemed to me as though all society were coming to me, to drop its mask for a moment and initiate me into the mystery. How we do suffer! And we go on laughing; for, as a practical joke at our expense, life is a success.”
—Henry Brooks Adams (18381918)
