Film

In 1995 Reid was the voice of Wendolene Ramsbottom in the Wallace and Gromit film A Close Shave. Her other film appearances include Love and Death on Long Island (1997) and The Mother (2003), the latter performance secured her a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2004.

She filmed a minor role as a lesbian headmistress in the 2003 film Love Actually, but Reid is not credited in the cast list as all her scenes were ultimately deleted, as they were not central to the main plot. They can however, be viewed in the deleted scenes on the Love Actually DVD. She also appeared in the film Hot Fuzz in 2007. In 2010 she appeared with Ricky Gervais in the film Cemetery Junction, which he wrote and directed with Stephen Merchant.

Reid co-starred with Vanessa Redgrave and Terence Stamp in the film Song for Marion which will be released in UK cinemas in 2013.

Famous quotes containing the word film:

    The obvious parallels between Star Wars and The Wizard of Oz have frequently been noted: in both there is the orphan hero who is raised on a farm by an aunt and uncle and yearns to escape to adventure. Obi-wan Kenobi resembles the Wizard; the loyal, plucky little robot R2D2 is Toto; C3PO is the Tin Man; and Chewbacca is the Cowardly Lion. Darth Vader replaces the Wicked Witch: this is a patriarchy rather than a matriarchy.
    Andrew Gordon, U.S. educator, critic. “The Inescapable Family in American Science Fiction and Fantasy Films,” Journal of Popular Film and Television (Summer 1992)

    Film music should have the same relationship to the film drama that somebody’s piano playing in my living room has to the book I am reading.
    Igor Stravinsky (1882–1971)

    Lay not that flattering unction to your soul,
    That not your trespass but my madness speaks;
    It will but skin and film the ulcerous place,
    Whilst rank corruption, mining all within,
    Infects unseen.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
