Anna Sundstrand

Anna Sundstrand

Anna Maria Carolina Sundstrand (born February 22, 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden) is a Swedish singer and model. She was a member of the Swedish pop group Play from the group's formation in 2001 when she was 12 until their breakup in 2005. Sundstrand was the youngest member of the group until Janet Leon joined in 2003.

Anna was selected to be a part of the group Play by Laila Bagge, who owned a dance studio in Sweden called 'Sway' in which Anna was enrolled. Anna is a relative of the Swedish actress Greta Garbo.

Since Play's disbanding, 170 cm (5 ft 7 in) Anna began a modeling career, signing with Model Management Group based in New York City (the same agency to which her bandmate Rosie Munter has signed) and posing for a 2006 calendar being marketed to the same audience that followed Play. Additionally, she has been exploring a solo singing career. She has performed several times with Chris Trousdale, a former member of boy band Dream Street. Her debut album was expected to be released in 2007, but production of the album halted for unknown reasons.

Sundstrand was most often heard singing the middle harmony/melody line of Play songs, but sometimes she also sang the higher harmonies. On various performances of the song "Don't Stop the Music" from Play's album Don't Stop the Music, Sundstrand sang the higher harmony while fellow member Rosie Munter sings her solo.

In 2009, Anna Sundstrand completed a film titled The Sacred Journey, alongside longtime band member and friend Chris Trousdale. The Sacred Journey is expected to be released sometime in 2010.

Anna worked on a movie directed by Michael Criscione in February 2010, called The Truth about Layla. Anna is also writing a fiction book based on her life about the struggles of a child star in the entertainment industry.

Also in 2010, Play announced their reunion which would include all original members, including former front woman Faye Hamlin, but much to the disappointment of fans, it was later announced that Anna along with former band mate Rosanna Munter would not be a part of the groups new line up. Anna released two statements regarding the controversy confirming she would not be a part of the reunion, citing that she did not agree with the way the reunion was handled, but wished the girls all the best, and that she is focused on her film & music career in the U.S., where she has lived for the past few years.

In February 2010, Anna released her debut solo single, "Brand New Me" on iTunes.

As of June 2012, Anna lives in New York City, where she occasionally models.
