Anishinaabe in Popular Culture

A fictional Anishinaabe clan in Ontario, the Mtigwaki, were featured in the comic strip For Better or For Worse from 2005 to 2006.

The popular book "Keeper N' Me" by Richard Wagamese also reflects on the people and the traditions of the Anishinaabe people. Other renowned Anishnaabe writers include Louise Erdrich, Annharte, Winona Laduke and Gerald Vizenor. Anishnaabemowin or Ojibwe language has begun to appear in Native hip hop music and rap, and Anishnaabe ideas continue to spark conversation in the North American mainstream to a high degree especially with regards to the topics of land stewardship, community empowerment and mutual aid.

Famous quotes containing the words popular and/or culture:

The lowest form of popular culture—lack of information, misinformation, disinformation, and a contempt for the truth or the reality of most people’s lives—has overrun real journalism. Today, ordinary Americans are being stuffed with garbage.
    Carl Bernstein (b. 1944)

Here in the U.S., culture is not that delicious panacea which we Europeans consume in a sacramental mental space and which has its own special columns in the newspapers—and in people’s minds. Culture is space, speed, cinema, technology. This culture is authentic, if anything can be said to be authentic.
    Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929)
