History
Anime NebrasKon was founded by the members of University of Nebraska-Lincoln's anime club in 2004 as an fund-raising project and had 300 attendees at the first convention. Due to the conventions growth, in 2009 it moved to the Holiday Inn Omaha Convention Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and added 24 hour programming. The convention expanded the dealers room due to renovations at the Ramada in 2012. The convention raised $2,600 for Big Brothers Big Sisters during the 2012 charity auction. An attendee on the way to the convention in 2012 was briefly detained by police after entering a bank wearing cosplay from the series Resident Evil.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“There is one great fact, characteristic of this our nineteenth century, a fact which no party dares deny. On the one hand, there have started into life industrial and scientific forces which no epoch of former human history had ever suspected. On the other hand, there exist symptoms of decay, far surpassing the horrors recorded of the latter times of the Roman empire. In our days everything seems pregnant with its contrary.”
—Karl Marx (1818–1883)
“No one is ahead of his time, it is only that the particular variety of creating his time is the one that his contemporaries who are also creating their own time refuse to accept.... For a very long time everybody refuses and then almost without a pause almost everybody accepts. In the history of the refused in the arts and literature the rapidity of the change is always startling.”
—Gertrude Stein (1874–1946)
“A man will not need to study history to find out what is best for his own culture.”
—Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
