Animals in War Memorial - Construction

Construction

The memorial was inspired by Jilly Cooper's book, Animals in War, and was made possible by a specially set up fund of £1,400,000 from public donations of which Jilly Cooper was a co-trustee. The memorial consists of a 55 ft by 58 ft (16.8 m by 17.7 m) curved Portland stone wall: the symbolic arena of war, emblazoned with images of various struggling animals, along with two heavily laden bronze mules progressing up the stairs of the monument, and a bronze horse and bronze dog beyond it looking into the distance.

Famous quotes containing the word construction:

There is, I think, no point in the philosophy of progressive education which is sounder than its emphasis upon the importance of the participation of the learner in the formation of the purposes which direct his activities in the learning process, just as there is no defect in traditional education greater than its failure to secure the active cooperation of the pupil in construction of the purposes involved in his studying.
    John Dewey (1859–1952)

    There’s no art
To find the mind’s construction in the face:
He was a gentleman on whom I built
    An absolute trust.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

The construction of life is at present in the power of facts far more than convictions.
    Walter Benjamin (1892–1940)
