Anglican Network in Canada - Media Attention and Legal Troubles

Media Attention and Legal Troubles

The Anglican Network has recently gained a degree of media attention in two respects. Firstly, the network upholds traditional Christian understandings of morality including what it believes are the orthodox Biblical ideas about family, marriage and discipleship. The network has been criticized by the mainline Anglican Church of Canada, the Canadian media, secular interest groups and other liberal, mainline denominations for taking a stand against the blessing of same-sex unions and same-sex marriage.

Secondly, many parishes in the network are involved in legal battles with their former Anglican dioceses. This includes many established, vibrant and larger churches being sued by the Anglican Church of Canada for possession of their church buildings and trust funds attached to them.

Famous quotes containing the words media, attention, legal and/or troubles:

The question confronting the Church today is not any longer whether the man in the street can grasp a religious message, but how to employ the communications media so as to let him have the full impact of the Gospel message.
Pope John Paul II (b. 1920)

The art of leadership ... consists in consolidating the attention of the people against a single adversary and taking care that nothing will split up that attention.... The leader of genius must have the ability to make different opponents appear as if they belonged to one category.
    Adolf Hitler (1889–1945)

Lawyers are necessary in a community. Some of you ... take a different view; but as I am a member of that legal profession, or was at one time, and have only lost standing in it to become a politician, I still retain the pride of the profession. And I still insist that it is the law and the lawyer that make popular government under a written constitution and written statutes possible.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

When there are no troubles in the world, fools will create them.
    Chinese proverb.
