Andy Irvine (musician) - Early Life

Early Life

Andrew Irvine was born in St John's Wood, northwest London to Irish-Scots parents. His mother was an actress, and as a child Irvine made a few minor appearances on stage and in films and starred in a TV series, but he gave up acting when he reached adolescence. He studied classical guitar, but gave it up for "trad" (traditional) music upon discovering Lonnie Donegan and the Skiffle boom of the 1950s, and, later, Woody Guthrie, who was to become an enduring influence on his music and outlook.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

[In early adolescence] she becomes acutely aware of herself as a being perceived by others, judged by others, though she herself is the harshest judge, quick to list her physical flaws, quick to undervalue and under-rate herself not only in terms of physical appearance but across a wide range of talents, capacities and even social status, whereas boys of the same age will cite their abilities, their talents and their social status pretty accurately.
    Terri Apter (20th century)

Truth is the kind of error without which a certain species of life could not live. The value for life is ultimately decisive.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)
