2010 Candidacy For Arizona Attorney General
Thomas resigned as Maricopa County Attorney in April, 2010, in order to run for the office of Arizona Attorney General. After a divisive campaign, in which was endorsed and supported by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Thomas was defeated in the August, 2010, primary election by Republican candidate Tom Horne.
