Andrew Haydon Park

Andrew Haydon Park is a park on the Ottawa River in the city of Ottawa. It is situated on Carling Avenue at Holly Acres Road.

There is a bandshell for outdoor concerts and a picnic area. The Nepean Sailing Club is located nearby at Dick Bell Park. It is a beautiful park that features walking trails, play structures & swimming.

Migrating Canada Geese and shorebirds stop over along the marshy edges of the river near the park. Resident Canada Geese also inhabit the park's two ponds resulting in the common feces problem associated with geese in parks.

The park was named after Andrew Haydon, former Reeve of Nepean.

Dogs are permitted on leash as pilot project for a period of one year (2009-2010) and will be continued onto 2010-2011 if there are no problems.

  • Geese have made the park their own.

  • A small windmill stands between the park and the Ottawa river.

  • Landscaping in the park

  • Entrance to the marina

The great difficulty is first to win a reputation; the next to keep it while you live; and the next to preserve it after you die, when affection and interest are over, and nothing but sterling excellence can preserve your name. Never suffer youth to be an excuse for inadequacy, nor age and fame to be an excuse for indolence.
    —Benjamin Haydon (1786–1846)

    and the words never said,
And the ominous, ominous dancing ahead.
We sat in the car park till twenty to one
And now I’m engaged to Miss Joan Hunter Dunn.
