Andean Volcanic Belt - Geothermal Activity

Geothermal Activity

The Andean Volcanic Belt represents a large geothermal province, with numerous hot springs, solfataras and geysers associated with its volcanoes. The geothermal exploration in the Andes was pioneered in Chile in the 1960s, although the site of El Tatio was invistigated already in the 1920s. Compared to neighboring Central America, the Andean region is poorly explored and exploited for geothermal resources.

Famous quotes containing the word activity:

In communist society, where nobody has one exclusive sphere of activity but each can become accomplished in any branch he wishes, society regulates the general production and thus makes it possible for me to do one thing today and another tomorrow, to hunt in the morning, fish in the afternoon, rear cattle in the evening, criticize after dinner, just as I have a mind, without ever becoming hunter, fisherman, shepherd or critic.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
